Enrollment Eligibility
Applicants to the Oregon LLM program must have earned a JD from an accredited US law school or hold a law degree (LLB or equivalent) from a non-US program of legal education.
Program Start
Students in the in-person Environmental & Natural Resources Law, Business Law, and American Law tracks begin their studies in the fall semester (August). Beginning in 2027, students in the fully online Sports Law track may begin in summer through the Oregon Summer Sports Law Institute or in the fall semester. Both start options are available to full-time and part-time students.
Application Process Overview
The LLM Advisory Committee reviews each LLM application. Admission decisions are based on your academic record, legal research and writing skills, English language proficiency (if applicable), work or volunteer experience related to the concentration sought, recommendations from professors or employers, and your demonstrated interest in the LLM concentration to which you are applying.
After the Committee review of your file is complete, you will be notified of the admissions decision via email. Please see the Application Deadlines table below for decision notification dates for each application round.
Once admitted, you will receive a link for paying a non-refundable $500 tuition deposit. Paying the seat deposit is the final step to secure your spot in the program.
Tuition Scholarships
All applicants are automatically considered for a tuition scholarship based on the strength of their application and funding availability. No separate scholarship application is required.

* International applicants who need a visa for in-person study should apply by Round 3. Applications received after January 31 will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. International applicants to the online Sports Law track follow the same admissions calendar as domestic applicants.
How to Apply
Oregon Law requires all LLM candidates to register with the Law School Admission Council’s LLM Credential Assembly Service (LLM CAS) and submit their applications through the LSAC portal. This streamlined process allows you to apply to multiple law schools with a single set of credentials.
How LLM CAS Works
- You'll submit one copy of your academic records, letters of recommendation, and English-language test scores (TOEFL or IELTS) to LSAC.
- LSAC compiles these materials and, at your request, forwards them to the law schools you select—including Oregon Law's LLM Program.

Getting Started
- LSAC recommends creating an account and registering for LLM CAS four-six weeks before your first application deadline.
- After you create your LSAC account, you can access the Oregon Law LLM application form when the application cycle opens on October 1.
Once you submit your application through the LSAC website, LSAC will automatically transmit your completed file to us for review.
Required Application Materials
International Students
English Proficiency: TOEFL, IELTS, DUOLINGO
Applicants whose native language is not English must fulfill additional language proficiency requirements. ("Native language" is defined as the language you spoke as your primary language in childhood and continuing through the rest of your education.)
Non-native English speakers must submit a TOEFL, IELTS, or DUOLINGO score with their application materials. Test results cannot be older than two years (24 months) from the testing date. The LLM program’s English language proficiency requirements are provided below.

Official TOEFL or IELTS scores should be submitted directly to LSAC. You may send your Duolingo English Test scores directly to us; please follow these instructions.
Degree from certain English-speaking countries: The University of Oregon Division of Graduate Studies accepts as evidence of English proficiency a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or the equivalent from an institution in one of the following countries: Australia, Canada (excluding Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, or the United Kingdom. We are unable to accept certificates of English as a mode of instruction to satisfy this requirement.
The program may require additional verification of language proficiency at a graduate level.
Suggested In-Person LLM Admission Timeline
This suggested timeline illustrates early application for Fall semester, in-person enrollment. Your enrollment schedule will depend on when you are admitted.
OCTOBER 30 Submit application for priority admission
Submitting by October 30 increases your chances of receiving merit- and need-based scholarships and provides ample time for international students to navigate the visa process.
NOVEMBER 15 Receive notification of admission decision
If you applied by October 30, you will receive your admissions decision by November 15. You will automatically be considered for tuition funding support.
DECEMBER Secure your spot in the program by paying the $500 seat deposit.
The seat deposit finalizes your spot in the program and will be applied to your program tuition. If interested, apply for international student scholarships or domestic student scholarships.
JANUARY Receive I-20 and Pay I-901 SEVIS fee (international students)
Provide UO’s ISSS office the requisite documentation to receive your I-20. Then, complete the I-901 form using the information from your I-20 and pay the $350 SEVIS fee. (The I-20 and SEVIS fee are required to apply for an F-1 student visa and for entry to the US)
FEBRUARY Obtain your F-1 visa (international students)
Schedule a visa interview at the nearest US embassy or consulate as soon as possible. You will use the SEVIS ID to schedule the interview, but you must present the printed, signed & dated copy of the I-20 you received via email to the consular officer when you attend your visa interview.
March Start your housing search
Reach out to the LLM office at info@uoregon.College for additional guidance on housing options.
APRIL Submit health documents (required). Request disability accommodations (optional).
Satisfy UO's health requirements for enrollment, and make an appointment with the Accessible Education Center to request accommodations support.
MAY Begin Travel Planning
Book flights or plan your route. International students should notify ISSS and the LLM Program of your travel plans and expected arrival date.
JUNE Pre-register for fall classes
We will automatically register you for any required courses, and you will complete a pre-registration form to indicate your preferred fall semester courses/electives.
Late JULY Arrive in Eugene and get settled
International students coming to the U.S. with an F-1 visa may enter the U.S. up to 30 days before the program start date on your I-20.
Early August Participate in LLM orientation activities
You will be provided an itinerary of pre-semester activities designed to prepare you for the start of classes.
LATE AUGUST Classes begin
