Impact Goal: FIve New ENDOWED Faculty Professorships

An investment in faculty excellence is an investment in every Oregon Law student. Faculty attract talented students, create transformative learning experiences, provide mentorship, advance scholarship, and strengthen institutional reputation.

For generations, Oregon Law has earned distinction through nationally recognized programs. Legal Research and Writing, Appropriate Dispute Resolution, Environmental and Natural Resources Law, and the Frohnmayer Leadership Program represent enduring areas of excellence.

And we continue to evolve. Investments in fields such as Business Law, Sports Law, Intellectual Property, and Indian Law build on institutional synergies, expand our expertise and influence, and position our students for success.

Greg Dotson Oregon Law
Preparing Lawyers for Emerging Challenges

The growth of data centers raises complex questions about energy, economic development, land use, and technology policy. Oregon Law is bringing those questions into the classroom.

In Fall 2026, Oregon Law Associate Professor Greg Dotson partnered with University of Oregon computer science professor Jun Li to develop an innovative interdisciplinary course examining data center growth through both legal and technical lenses.

It’s challenging to teach a course in real time on emerging legal and policy issues, and Dotson draws on his expertise in energy law as well as his service on the state’s Data Center Advisory Council Students gain a deeper understanding of the regulatory frameworks, infrastructure considerations, and policy questions shaping this rapidly evolving field, preparing them to address complex challenges at the intersection of law and technology.

"We're trying to provide a really timely education to students that is going to be relevant," Dotson said.
