Hello, I am Esma! Growing up in a socially diverse place in Turkey, I had a chance to work with students from all around the World. I was blessed to have the same chance here in University of Oregon. I love how these differences create a strong bond in the classroom environment. Every time I teach, I feel I was born to be a teacher! Engaging culture into the language and developing intercultural competence are some of my main goals!

I am from Kisii, Kenya but spent most of my adult life in the capital Nairobi. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from the University of Nairobi. I love nature and sports. Having been part of the US education system has challenged me because there are a few differences from the Kenyan one and I desire to take the positives with me when I go back home and see how far I could go with it. Meanwhile, let’s learn some Swahili, shall we?

I am Kesma from Egypt “Misr”.
Growing up amidst the ancient wonders of Egypt, I developed a profound love for its Arabic, Islamic and pharaonic culture. From the bustling streets of Cairo to the serene banks of the Nile, I have been immersed in the vibrant tapestry of Egyptian life, where every corner tells a story of history.
Now, as I am on this journey as a teacher and cultural ambassador, my goal is to share the beauty and complexity of the Arabic language and Egyptian culture with students at the University of Oregon. Through language instruction, cultural exchanges, and engaging activities, I aim to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for the diverse peoples and traditions of the Arab world. ِArabic has always been full of wonders that I strive to share and express. And here I quote the Egyptian iconic poet “Ahmed Shawky”:
إنّ الّذي ملأ اللغات محاسنًا
جعلَ الجمالَ وسرّه في الضّاد
Meaning: this who filled the languages with merits , had put the beauty and its secrets in Arabic.
