ART 116 :INTERDISCIPLINARY LABORATORY

This course section follows and expands on its curricular partner ART 115 building on an inter-media exploration in an interdisciplinary studio setting. Projects in ART 116 utilize the 3D processes and sculpture tools available in our designated classroom to explore methodologies that move thru inter-dimensional shifts from 2D to 3D & 4D. This transition can be a powerful introduction to hybrid art practice exposing students to the interrelationship of perception, systems of representation, and the limitations of form. The tools and materials recently utilized in ART 116 include paper modules, wood, cardboard, inflatable sculpture, fabric and sewn sculpture, laser cutting technology, drawing, Adobe Illustrator, steel brazing, audio media, video and image media, collaborative work and performance.

ART 116 is a broad introduction for students moving forward into the Department of Art’s media areas as well as Product Design, Furniture Making, Journalism, and Architecture.

ART 116 serves as an opportunity for undeclared majors to explore broader three-dimensional aspects of production after they’ve taken ART 115. Making work in a studio environment is coupled with history, theory, and methodology to explore your understanding of art practice and production.
