LINGUISTICS — The annual sponsored research report highlights research projects across disciplines, from the Oregon Coast to Papua New Guinea. Featured projects in this year's report include a linguistics project studying how a specific set of language patterns arise, how people learn them and why they persist over time as well as a project capturing an endangered and undocumented language in Papua New Guinea.

DISABILITY STUDIES, ENGLISH — After several years on hiatus, the Northwest Review has relaunched as an independent, nonprofit digital magazine produced in partnership with the University of Oregon. Jefferson Public Radio interviewed editor-in-chief and instructor Brian Trapp about the relaunch.

HUMANITIES — More than a year after the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) canceled approximately $175 million in grants nationwide, two College of Arts and Sciences professors are feeling optimistic about the future of the humanities after two days in Washington, D.C., advocating for the humanities.

CINEMA STUDIES — Colin Williamson, assistant professor in the Department of Cinema Studies is one of three professors awarded this year’s College of Arts and Sciences Tykeson Teaching Award.

DISABILITY STUDIES — Brian Trapp, the director of disability studies in the College of Arts and Sciences, is the author of the novel "Range of Motion" and essays found in Longreads, Kenyon Review, Southern Review and Brevity. This essay is about his experience growing up as a twin whose brother had cerebral palsy.

FRENCH, ITALIAN, CHINESE — Three professors in the College of Arts and Sciences received Oregon Humanities Center Fellowships for 2026–27 to do just that. The professors — all members of the Schnitzer School of Global Studies and Languages — include Roy Chan, Fabienne Moore and Eleanor Paynter.

LINGUISTICS, EALL — Three faculty members from the College of Arts and Sciences were inducted as Fellows into the premiere linguistics organization and a doctoral student receive an exclusive award for her research paper.
