A new political science faculty member joined the College of Arts and Sciences, who brings an additional perspective to a diverse roster of researchers.
Assistant Professor Trevor Brown joins the department, bringing his expertise in public policy and inequality. He’s arrived on campus ready immerse himself in the department and its culture.
“My colleagues are fantastic,” Brown said. “It is a real joy to be surrounded by people studying such important topics — ranging from immigration to presidential norms to access to civil liberties.”
A first-generation college graduate, Trevor received his Ph.D. from Cornell in 2025 before completing a year-long postdoctoral fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Moral and Political Economy, is looking forward to getting into the classroom this winter. In the meantime, he is keeping busy with his scholarly work.
“I'm working on my next book project, which examines labor organizing and economic, racial, and gendered inequality among the health care work force,” Brown said.
And while he continues work on his next project, a previous book he co-authored with Suzanne Mettler will factor into his teaching plans for this academic year.
“I'm preparing to teach two courses in the Winter,” Brown says, “one of which draws on my book on the rural-urban divide ‘Rural Versus Urban: The Growing Divide that Threatens Democracy.’”
Brown has already hit the ground running with his scholarly and teaching preparation efforts, and he has begun making himself part of the teaching community here, but he is keen to engage in one more aspect of the professorial experience: teaching students.
“I'm looking forward to getting to know the students who I will have the privilege to teach and advise,” Brown said.
