POLITICAL SCIENCE - Former CAS political science professor Jerry Medler passed away July 28, 2026. Medler was a PhD alum of the department and joined as an assistant professor. He retired in the early 2000s.

POLITICAL SCIENCE - Longtime professor Daniel Goldrich died Dec. 21, 2025. Goldrich joined the UO faculty in 1963. He focused on Latin and Central American politics and Pacific Northwest energy politics. Rarely did a day pass without a former student stopping him to say how profoundly his teaching had shaped them. In 1997, Dan received the Herman Faculty Award for excellence in teaching. Goldrich helped found organizations in Eugene that have since grown to be fixtures of the community.

POLITICAL SCIENCE - Sarah Koski graduated with a degree in political science in 2006 from the University of Oregon College of Arts and Sciences and Robert D. Clark Honors College. To find her purpose and mission, Koski first had to break up with the notion that all success is a high-powered executive job. Now a community resource liaison for Lane Transit District, Koski works to help people feel seen and heard, and to make real change in the unhoused community.

POLITICAL SCIENCE - Dulce Gutierrez valued the flexibility to explore different majors and minors. Originally a biology major, she switched her major to political science and government and picked up a minor in Spanish. She went to law school and is now a practicing attorney and finds herself using her multilingual studies in a practical manner.

POLITICAL SCIENCE - Political Science Philip H. Knight Chair and Professor Dan Tichenor publishes an article in The Conversation on how McCarthy Era anti-communism laws are being used to restrict the rights of noncitizens.

POLITICAL SCIENCE - New research from the University of Oregon reveals that a person’s political beliefs affect the trust they have in their own doctors and healthcare providers. Reporting by KLCC, an NPR affiliate, highlights the work of CAS political scientist Neil O'Brian.
