The ducks now are riding a five game winning streak after dominating Santa Clara 10-0 on Saturday afternoon. Starting pitcher Matt Mercer was phenomenal going 7 innings giving up zero runs and striking out 5. Santa Clara wasn't able to get anything going on offense mustering only 3 hits. The offensive star of the day was freshman Gabe Matthews going 4-4 with 3 RBIs. Not to mention he hit his first career college home run with a moon shot over the right field fence. David Peterson was dominant again as Oregon plays small ball to gut out a 2-1 win vs. Santa Clara. Peterson struck out 13 hitters over 7 1/3 innings giving him 31 in has last two outings. Kenyon Yovan came in and was able to pitch out of a runner on third two out situation by striking out the final hitter in the ninth. The Ducks were able to get two runs on an rbi groundout by Jake Bennett in the third and a sac fly by Bennett in the seventh. On Friday, they began their play in the competition with a doubleheader against the Hofstra Pride and the Idaho State Bengals. The Ducks had a good showing offensively against Hofstra winning the game 16-0 in five innings and needing the entire seven innings to put away Idaho State 9-3.
