Oregon Young Scholars Program

The Oregon Young Scholars Program (OYSP) offers rising Oregon high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors a chance to experience college life firsthand. It takes place on the UO campus, where students live in a dorm with a roommate and share meals, classes and projects with their peers, just as they would in college.  Participants in OYSP are chosen from the eighth-grade classes of several schools in Oregon.  The program is open to all students, including students with deep connections to civic, cultural, faith-based and other organizations as well as students from rural populations, first-generation, Pell-eligible, and students from historically underrepresented populations.  Each summer, OYSP brings these students for an on-campus residential experience. These Oregon high school students come to campus to start thinking about and working toward a college education. They attend intensive classes and participate in an area of emphasis for specialized study. During this on-campus experience, students learn how to prepare for, apply to, and pay for college. Scholars also learn important skills in civic engagement, active reflection, and leadership.

  2. To increase the interest of parents/families in higher education and encourage increased communication with teachers and administrators.
  3. To promote active civic engagement through volunteer experiences and lifelong learning.
  4. To foster a sense of community that is safe and accountable.

Fracchia/Gary Scholarship
For Graduates of the OYSP program who are enrolled at the University of Oregon
The Fracchia/Gary Scholarship was created to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students currently enrolled at the University of Oregon that have graduated from the OYSP program.
Each spring at least one Oregon Young Scholar Program student will be selected to receive this scholarship award to assist the recipient(s) with expenses related to attending the University of Oregon. It includes, but is not limited to tuition, fees, books, miscellaneous supplies, room, and board.

Jonathan Walker Memorial Scholarship
For students pursuing higher education in Oregon
Jonathan Walker  was preparing to start his first year of college in 2017, when we lost him to a tragic accident. He was the epitome of love and compassion for all that he engaged with. He understood and appreciated the value of higher education as a means to being able to support one's family and community. He touched many countless lives in his too-short life. Each scholarship will be for a minimum of $1000.00 with a goal of awarding several applicants this year. More information can be found on the OSAC application.
