About the Hall of Achievement

The University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication Hall of Achievement (HOA) recognizes alumni and faculty who have shaped journalism, advertising, public relations, media and communication, and public life. Established in 1998, it now includes more than 100 inductees, from Pulitzer Prize winners and Emmy-winning broadcasters to advertising founders, authors, and public servants. Each year, in addition to inducting new members into the HOA, the SOJC presents the Eric Allen Outstanding Young Alumni Award to graduates under 40 who are making an early mark in their fields.

Meet the 2026 Honorees

A 1999 University of Oregon journalism graduate, Jason Lewis-Berry expected a media career until 9/11 turned him toward public service. As a U.S. diplomat he served two tours in Afghanistan and directed overseas operations for the State Department under President Obama. He went on to advise Oregon Governor Kate Brown, co-found the voter-protection nonprofit Power the Vote, and help lead the U.S. refugee program from 2021 to 2025.

When Linda Coble earned her scholarship-funded broadcast journalism degree from the University of Oregon in 1969, a Portland KOIN-TV news director told her to "come back when you have more experience and a sex change operation." She headed to Hawaii instead, talked her way into a newsroom, and became the first female TV news anchor in the state. She later anchored at KGMB and spent a decade delivering the news on Honolulu's Perry & Price radio show.

Kyu Ho Youm's path into free-expression law began in 1973, when South Korea's government conscripted him after he protested as a college student. After earning degrees from Southern Illinois University, Yale, and Oxford, he joined the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication in 2002 as its inaugural Jonathan Marshall First Amendment Chair. His research has been cited by supreme courts around the world, including Canada and the Philippines. He received the AEJMC Presidential Award in 2020.

Hamed Aleaziz covers immigration and the Department of Homeland Security for the New York Times—a beat rooted in childhood, when an Oregonian reporter's coverage of his family's immigration case helped keep them together. A University of Oregon graduate, he reported for the San Francisco Chronicle, BuzzFeed News, and the Los Angeles Times before joining the Times, where his coverage of ICE operations and the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia made him a 2026 Pulitzer Prize finalist.
