Community Diversity Advisory Board

The Community Diversity Advisory Board (CDAB) consists of the Dean, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Associate Dean for Administration and Strategic Initiatives, and the Executive Assistant to the Dean.

Charge: The charge of the CDAB is to provide counsel and recommendations to the Dean regarding the COE’s ongoing efforts to promote and advance a climate of thriving and belongingness within both the COE and the broader educational and human services community.

Nicole Butler

Nicole was recently awarded the honor and title of the 2021 Oregon Teacher of the Year and is the first Indigenous Teacher in Oregon to receive this recognition. She is a member of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians-Chetco Band (Oregon) and the San Carlos Apache Tribe (Arizona). Nicole is deeply committed to equity in the classroom, providing students with an accurate Native curriculum that focuses on presence, and cultural competency in her teaching.

Richard founded The City of Refuge International, Inc. in 2007. Since then, the organization has helped thousands of people in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Marty Pérez

Assistant Principal, Sam Case Elementary School, Lincoln County School District

A first generation Mexican-American and enrolled Klamath Tribal member (of the Modoc Tribe). Taught Spanish at NAYA Early College Academy and in the Portland Public Schools’ Dual Language Immersion Program for the past decade. Currently serving as assistant principal at Sam Case Elementary (3-5). Represented secondary educators on the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission from 2014-2019. Appointed to the Governor’s Council on Education Advancement in 2016-2017.
