Simply Missing It

The past week has really taught and exposed me to a lot. Now that I have had time to decompress with all sorts of emotions, I can reflect back on the impact that New York has made on me. All the fears and pre-conceived ideas I had about both the people, and city were pleasantly proven wrong. Strictly from an experience perspective, the city has so much to offer. It was very apparent to me from day one that while there is a wide range of diversity all over, New Yorkers stand together as one community. Over the seven days, I was exposed to every type of person and language imaginable, and quite frankly it was so beautiful. It was also very cool to see that almost everyone has some sort of side hustle, whether that be an afternoon screenwriting class or selling five dollar umbrellas on the sidewalk.

On the flip side: from a career perspective, what more could you ask for. To be able to work in the Mecca of advertising, truly where the big leagues are. There is so much room for opportunity, but with that being said, those doors can only open if you work hard enough and allow them to. Given that there is so much inspiration that the city can offer, it was great hearing from industry professionals about how they are constantly drawing inspiration from new places all around them. Furthermore, it was very reassuring to see just how large the network of Ducks we have in the industry is, and how willing they are to help. I will definitely remember the advice and guidance they offered when I am in their shoes. Overall, I miss you New York; but don’t worry, I’ll be back.
