Stepping out and stepping in.
New York City. Lots of people. Lots of places.
I started my senior year assuming I wasn’t going to go on this trip. Obviously, things have changed. I’ve never desired to be in a big city. I lived in the most remote area of Iceland and loved getting to know literally all 200 people in my town. The idea of visiting or living in NYC never even crossed my mind. JUST TOO MANY PEOPLE.
I assumed I would probably get nothing out of this. I would waste my money and not make any connections, yadda yadda yadda. But, as the New York trip gets closer, the gears in my head keep turning. “What if?” “What if I ended up liking New York?” “What if I got a job there?” “Why not?” Hey now, what’s that feeling? Butterflies? BUTTERFLIES! The excitement is building. I am beginning to step out of my comfort zone and welcome this opportunity rather than find all the ways to feel disappointed (classic Olivia). I am surrounded by incredible creatives but I keep forgetting I am one of them. My confidence is building along with my portfolio (thank god). Finally stepping into the ad world and surrounding myself with optimism and curiosity. Big things are coming for me. I don’t know the timeline of it all but I know it starts with New York.
