A beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon in Eugene, Ore. meant it was time for Game 2 of the rivalry series between the No. 13 Oregon Ducks (29-12, 14-7 Big Ten) and the No. 3 Oregon State Beavers (32-8), which saw Oregon win in style 13-1.

Oregon’s defense started off the game strong in the top of the first, securing a double play off a grounder directed towards sophomore shortstop Maddox Molony.

The Ducks' offense also got off on the right foot, in the bottom of the first, with Dominic Hellman hitting a deep ball over the center field wall, bringing home two runs, and making it a 2-0 Oregon game early. Beavers starting pitcher Dax Whitney (3.0 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 4 K and 68 pitches) recorded his first strikeout of the game to end the inning.

The Oregon Ducks are star-studded with offensive firepower in every department, but during their 2025 Spring Game, the Ducks’ offensive talent was stifled by strong defensive performances. 

Through the first three quarters, there were few explosive plays for both the Fighting Ducks and the Combat Ducks. Quarterbacks on either side were struggling to find room to stretch the field.

“Some good, some bad,” head coach Dan Lanning said regarding the quarterback play. “Thought we hit a funk a little bit in the middle, started off a little bit hot. Operated well in some situations and then in some we certainly could have been better in.”

Projected starting quarterback Dante Moore struggled to find plays downfield until the fourth quarter, when he connected with Jurrion Dickey on the sideline for 35 yards. Fresh off the NFL draft, the Oregon Ducks capped off spring practices with their annual spring game. The 2025 draft was a historic day for the program. Lanning saw six Ducks selected in the first three rounds of the draft, and 10 selected in total. Both are program records.

Fans packed into Autzen Stadium Saturday afternoon to watch the scrimmage between the Fighting Ducks (white) and the Combat Ducks (black). Full rosters can be found here.

Rivalry series baseball began in Eugene on Friday as the No. 13 Oregon Ducks (28-12, 14-7 Big Ten) took Game 1 of the four-game set with a 4-2 score against the No. 3 Oregon State Beavers (32-7).

At the top of the eighth, sophomore right-handed reliever Cole Stokes was on the mound for the Ducks. While Stokes was coming off a solid performance the game before, he was in a bind with two runners on. He got ahead 1-2, then slowed, checked the runner on second, and fired his signature heater to ring up the star of the Beavers, junior left fielder Gavin Turley. Stokes had words for Turley as he was fired up heading towards the dugout.

Leading the way for the Oregon offense was sophomore second baseman Ryan Cooney, who was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

More history was made at PK Park during the series finale of the top-25 matchup between the No. 16 Oregon Ducks (27-11, 14-7 Big Ten) and the No. 10 UCLA Bruins (29-10, 13-5 Big Ten). In the bottom of the fourth, sophomore second baseman Ryan Cooney and junior third baseman Carter Garate singled to put runners on first and second. Down 4-3, the Ducks needed a spark to avoid back-to-back losses to this Bruins squad. With junior center fielder Mason Neville at the plate ahead in the count 2-1, the history books were ready to be rewritten as he slaughtered the next pitch deep to right field. This made Neville the single-season home run king in Ducks history.

Neville led the way for the Oregon offense today, going 3-for-4 with a double, a homer and three RBIs.

Records are nice, but wins are better. The No.16-ranked Oregon Ducks (26-11, 13-7 Big Ten) continued their showdown with No. 10-ranked UCLA Bruins on Sunday. UCLA and Oregon entered this series finale with one win apiece — but the Ducks exited with the series win.

Oregon took Game 1 of the series with a 1-2 score, behind a complete game masterclass from ace Grayson Grinsell. Game 2 of the series wasn’t nearly as close. The Bruins scored 10 runs in the seventh and eighth innings to enforce a run-rule win: 14-4.

“After the way yesterday ended,” head coach Mark Wasikowski said, “We were ashamed of the way we went about it at the end of that ball game.”

As the Ducks searched for their second-ranked win of the season, senior RHP Jason Reitz took the mound. The San Jose native was coming off the best start of his career at Maryland. For the No. 16-ranked Oregon Ducks (26-10, 13-6 Big Ten), their biggest weekend series is upon them, defining if they truly are a contender this season. As the 2025 roster inches closer to breaking historic school records, they looked to keep momentum going after the biggest win of the season on Friday against conference-leading, No. 10-ranked UCLA Bruins (28-9, 12-4 Big Ten).

The Ducks’ weekend showcase proves whether they are the real deal going forward. Oregon’s offensive stars continue to shine in its biggest moments, as it looks to lead an end-of-the-season push. They’re peaking at the perfect time. 

With a memorable Friday opening showdown in Eugene, Ore., the Ducks were led by junior pitcher Grayson Grinsell. He followed his first career complete game, with seven strikeouts, raising his career total to 229 and passing Tommy Thorpe (2012-14) to become fourth all-time at Oregon. 

“It means everything,” Grinsell said in a postgame interview.

After a Saturday showdown at The Jane, both the Ducks and the Bruins remain tied in their pursuit of both a series victory and the top spot in the Big Ten conference. 

The No. 5 Oregon Ducks (40-5, 13-2 Big Ten) softball team went down scoreless against the No. 6 UCLA Bruins (41-6, 13-2 Big Ten) in the second game of the series by a final of 8-0. 

Oregon started off strong, coming through with a perfect first inning led by junior pitcher Lyndsey Grein, as she struck out two. Grein was a clutch contributor in the Friday night victory for the first game of the series against the Bruins. 

However, the scoreboard stayed empty up until the top of the third, when junior third baseman Jordan Woolery decided to put UCLA on the board first with a sacrifice fly to right. Graduate outfielder Jessica Clements continued the momentum, scoring on a wild pitch later in the inning.

At the bottom of the first of the middle match between the No. 16 Oregon Ducks (26-11, 13-7 Big Ten) and the No. 10 UCLA Bruins (29-9, 13-4 Big Ten), lead-off junior center fielder Mason Neville was up to bat and looking to fill in the early 1-0 hole the Ducks had put themselves in. He went down in the count 1-2 early in the at-bat, but worked two straight pitches to fill it up. On the next pitch, Neville activated the launch sequence and cracked the ball deep to right field. The ball soared over the Oregon bullpen and the Sargent Player Development Area during the monstrous homer. Neville knew it immediately as he flipped his bat and looked toward his fired-up dugout. 

The bullpen would let down these efforts, though, as UCLA rallied and took Game 2 with a 14-4 score.

Senior first baseman Jacob Walsh led the way for the Oregon offense today, going 2-for-4 with two homers and two RBIs.
