Germany’s capital of Berlin showcases a dynamic fusion of rich history and modern vibrancy. Spanning approximately 23 miles from north to south and 28 miles from east to west, Berlin is Germany’s largest city, shaped by the Spree River and encompassing diverse landscapes, from pine-tree studded woods to iconic landmarks like the television tower (pictured above) and Brandenburg Gate. Berlin’s architecture, ranging from Baroque to Bauhaus, reflects its ability to blend the modern with the traditional, creating a dynamic urban environment.
Berlin’s population is diverse, with a history of multiculturalism and immigration. The city’s economy has seen a resurgence in traditional industries, making it Germany’s largest industrial town. Modern transportation systems, including the S-Bahn and U-Bahn, connect Berlin to major European cities, while its airports, such as the newly expanded Berlin Brandenburg Airport, contribute to its status as a vital regional hub. *Language note: German isn’t a required pre-requisite for this program, but is recommended especially for more competitive fields, or those that dictate working with the local population. Students without German language experience are welcome to apply but should be aware that they will need to be especially flexible in terms of placement.
