Council of Assistant/Associate Deans of Research

The University of Oregon Council of Assistant/Associate Deans of Research (Research Council) was initiated in October 2023. The Research Council seeks to enhance our research and innovation enterprise by engaging across academic units on strategic efforts to grow research and to streamline processes to reduce administrative burdens while ensuring compliance. The Research Council will serve as a communication channel between the research endeavors within schools, colleges, centers, and institutes and the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation (OVPRI). This council will support OVPRI in disseminating resources, will advise and engage in strategy and implementation, and will participate in coordinated institutional efforts to address barriers or limitations related to sponsored research activity and administration.

Membership on the Research Council will reflect the diverse research and innovation efforts across the institution. All academic units can have representation on this council. For units that do not have a designated associate/assistant dean whose portfolio includes research, scholarship, and/or creative activity, the dean/unit head will have the option to nominate a representative. Membership is ongoing as long as the member serves in the capacity outlined above, or a two-year commitment for designated research representatives. The council meets at least quarterly throughout the academic year.
