Abstract:
I will discuss how mathematical manuscripts were prepared in the olden days before TeX came onto the scene in the 1980s. A wonderful intermediate tool, dating back to around 1960, involved Typits. Before that mathematical symbols were almost always inserted by hand in a typed manuscript. And before typewriters, the entire manuscripts had to be done by hand.
