Biography:
John D. Sutter is an academic expert in climate change communication, climate journalism and how the media covers environmental issues. A former CNN reporter and investigative journalist, his work focuses on telling the human stories behind the climate crisis and documenting how environmental change affects communities over time. His reporting and research have examined wildfire smoke in Oregon, climate migration, sea-level rise, extreme weather and the ways news organizations cover climate solutions. Sutter is also a documentary filmmaker whose work explores “shifting baselines” — how gradual environmental changes can become normalized across generations.
