Dear UO faculty,
With the end of fall term in sight, we hope you get a chance to rest up and recharge over the Thanksgiving and winter breaks. The University of Oregon will again observe a quiet period from Dec. 25 to Jan. 1, and offer a floating holiday for eligible employees. Please remember the academic policies that apply towards the end of the term and encourage students to submit their experience surveys.

As faculty, you are leading every day – on committees, in the classroom, with your graduate students, with your research teams, co-authors and collaborators, and so on. Consider applying for the 2025-26 cohort of UO Leadership Academy to continue developing your capacity to lead from where you are. Entering its eighth year, this year-long intensive and engaging experience has included career and tenure-related faculty from every school and college and has been described as both a transformational and network-building experience.

The fall Student Experience Survey will be open from Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 8 a.m. until 6 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 9. Instructors who encourage student feedback, offer class time to submit the survey, or add custom questions are likely to get a wider range of helpful feedback.

| New Quizzes on Canvas
Enhance accessibility and streamline assigning
Beginning winter term, we are excited to announce that New Quizzes will be available in Canvas. New Quizzes allow for a more streamlined process for assigning accommodations, enhancing accessibility for all students.
This feature is an optional enhancement. Classic Quizzes will still be available, allowing you to choose which format best suits your course needs. Classic and New Quizzes can both be used within the same course. This change will not affect quizzes that already exist, nor will you be required to migrate existing quizzes to New Quizzes.

As we near the end of the term, faculty members may experience technological issues. Please consider using UO Online’s service center or portal to solve or avoid issues in Canvas.

Faculty Research Awards
The Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation (OVPRI) announces the 2025 Faculty Research Award competition that provides up to $10K to faculty members who do not currently have a significant active externally funded research award. Apply by Jan. 21

Research Seed Grants
OVPRI announces the 2025 Research Seed Grants competition to support faculty in acquiring preliminary data and developing a competitive proposal for significant external funding. Apply by Jan. 21.

Budgeting Adjusted Salaries on Sponsored Projects
OVPRI’s Sponsored Projects Services announces that faculty can now choose to budget using ‘adjusted salary’ figures. This option will lower the total salary and OPE costs in the proposal, potentially increasing competitiveness.

FYI Fridays
Faculty are invited to present their research or project, share a tool or skill, or build awareness of a campus resource they’re involved with. Human Resources in accepting proposals for winter and spring.

Oregon Employees' Charitable Fund Drive
Faculty members can easily donate to Eugene-Springfield, Lane County, and Oregon nonprofits. Donate monthly through payroll deduction or donate one-time gifts to your chosen organizations. The drive runs through December 27.
