You must have completed a college-level reporting course and\/or have gained experience with a campus or community news publication. You must be a student at the time you apply. It\u2019s OK if you will have graduated by the time the summer internship begins.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>How are interns selected?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Snowden interns are selected for their potential for successful media careers based on their reporting experience, commitment to ethics, academic performance and passion for journalism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>Note:<\/strong> The application program should allow you to go \u201cback\u201d to previous pages on the application. You should also be able to leave this survey and re-enter to finish it later. However, because of technology glitches, we can\u2019t guarantee that this feature will work properly. As such, we suggest that you have all of your application materials ready to go and that you\u2019re submitting them in one session.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>The application will ask for:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Name<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">College\/University currently attending<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Expected graduation date (month and year)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Email address (university email)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Email address (permanent email, such as gmail, outlook, iCloud, etc.):<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Phone<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Permanent mailing address<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Link to your online portfolio<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Names of two references (see below)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>You must respond to two short-answer questions and write an essay:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Describe the type of reporting position you would like to have as a Snowden intern. (Describe the work itself, not the location or publication.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Your strengths with different reporting formats. Please rank them, with your strongest area first: audio, photography, video, writing. You are welcome to provide details about your experience with each format.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">An essay, in your own words, that addresses these questions: Why are you pursuing journalism? What have been the moments that have inspired and shaped your work? What impact do you hope to have as a journalist? There&#8217;s no need to list your work experience here \u2014 your resume will provide that background. Instead, tell us your story. Word limit: 500.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>You will be asked to upload:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Your current resume as a PDF file<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Transcripts from all colleges or universities you\u2019ve attended (official or unofficial transcripts are acceptable).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>You will be asked to provide a link to your portfolio website.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The portfolio should highlight your work as a journalist. This work can include published work, as well as other work you wish to share, including class assignments, course projects, any independent or self-published work. We won\u2019t be evaluating the design of the portfolio website. We\u2019re interested in the content and the quality of the work. We cannot evaluate any work not included in your portfolio.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>You will need two references<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">These references should know your work and can attest to your personal and professional responsibility. For example, recommenders may include professors and editors, or supervisors from jobs, internships or volunteer work. We will not accept recommendations from other students.
