Bike School
Bike School
Bike School is a six week program designed to introduce even the most novice rider to the mechanics of each system on a bike, and equip the rider with the rider with the ability to recognize, diagnose, and fix all manners of issues related to each of those systems.
Our curriculum is cumulative and is designed to mimic the order of operations a trained mechanic would aproach a bike repair.
Week 1: Shop Orientation/Tube Patches
Week 2: Hubs
Week 3: Wheel Truing
Week 4: Brakes
Week 5: Drivetrain
Week 6: Derailleurs
Topics we DO NOT cover are: bike fit, hydraulic brake bleeds, front/rear suspension
We encourage participants to bring in their own bike for the duration of the class. What better way to learn about bikes than to dive into your own personal ride? Tools and repair strands are provided, participants may need to purchase replacement parts depending on the condition/serviceability of a system.
There are two offerings available: Open Enrollment (OE) and Femme, Trans, Woman-Identifying, Non-Binary (FTWNB) Bike School
No experience necessary! Open to UO Students and Community members (with valid UO Community Member card).
For UO Students: Scholarship opportunities available! Inquire within the UO Bike Program for more details!!!
