Big City, Small World.

New York is huge but that doesn’t mean nobody knows each other. It was really inspiring to see the close-knit communities that New York builds both in the workplace and in everyday life. I found it fascinating that every time asked someone about living in New York, they all mention that everyone just kinda gets it. That struggle of a delayed subway, walking down the street to find a laundromat, and the crazy weather are all common experiences that create a unique bond between New Yorkers.

On a more professional note, the professional world is small— therefore your reputation is the only thing that proceeds you. Going into this trip I kinda figured that New York would be home to a lot of assholes because the size of the city might dilute accountability. It was encouraging to see that the exact opposite was true. I was reminded again and again of how important it is to create a positive name for yourself no matter where you work. On the flipside, if you burn bridges somewhere, the word will get out. Be kind!
