You don’t have to have shit figured out; perspective from a 5 year grad.

At this point in time last year, I was at a point of major doubt and uncertainty in regards to where I was going in my career path. All of my friends were graduating, most with jobs and career paths established. I understand that this is the biggest and most stressful moment when it comes to transitioning from student to employee. I’m here to reassure you that not having your career path figured out is COMPLETELY OKAY. Believe me, I have friends who had absolutely no idea as to what they were doing with their lives at this point in time. Imagine how I felt, seeing all of the people my age graduate and go on to bigger and better things; all while I still had 36 credits to complete. 

Regardless of the doubts, I found that this was also one of the most exciting moments of my life. Being in the unknown is one of the greatest moments you can experience in life; you’re not sure of anything that is happening around you, yet you are willing to dive towards any opportunity. These moments of doubt are when you grow and learn most, embrace them. Gravitate towards the things that personally inspire you and make you tick. As a college student, you already know what it is like to get by with the least amount of resources possible. Carry that minimalist mindset with you and nothing will seem impossible.

Walk confidently in your shoes, because no one will do it as well as you. Know yourself and hone in on your strengths. Broadcast them to the world and soon enough things will come your way. Take it from me, a 5th year who had no clue as to what he was doing, I somehow managed to land an internship at the 72 and Sunny agency this summer. Things will work out in your favor as long as you are willing to ignore the voice inside your head that limits you. Nothing is impossible so embrace the doubt you feel right now and manifest your vision of success through hard work, self promotion and networking. Be your biggest fan. That is all.
