Sonia Gonzales is a Mexican American and first generation college graduate. Since she was a young girl, her family encouraged her to attend college in order to build a better life. As a way of navigating the complexities of enrolling to a university, she became part of the Gear Up<\/em> program that helps first generation college students understand the university admissions system. Sonia is majoring in Linguistics at the UO.<\/p>\n

Sonia Gonzales es Mexico-Americana y es parte de la primera generaci\u00f3n en su familia que se grad\u00faan de la universidad. Desde peque\u00f1a su familia la anim\u00f3 a que fuera a la universidad para construir una vida mejor. Para entender como matricularse en la universidad, Sonia se uni\u00f3 al programa Gear Up <\/em>que ayuda a estudiantes de primera generaci\u00f3n entender el sistema universitario de admisi\u00f3n. Sonia estudia la licenciatura en Ling\u00fc\u00edstica en la Universidad de Oreg\u00f3n.<\/p>\n
