University of Oregon researcher highlights progress, challenges for women in STEM fields

In honor of International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we caught up with a researcher from the University of Oregon about getting more women and girls involved in science, technology, engineering and math.

Bioengineer Gabriella Lindberg works at UO’s Knight Campus, but she spoke with us from an international conference of scientists.

She said she believes there’s progress in getting girls and women involved in STEM education, yet there’s always more that can be done.

“An example (is) the International conference I’m at now, there is some wonderful conversation in raising awareness and that will encourage more outreach programs and make sure that it is on the radar for girls and women,” said Lindberg.
