Applied linguists and world language educators have noted that learners must use the target language and social interaction to play games, thereby making them a rich context for language and culture learning.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the interest in using games in the classroom and their widespread availability, harnessing the benefits of games to enhance language learning has yet to be fully explored.<\/p>\n<p>In response, the <a href=\"http:\/\/cercll.arizona.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Center for Education Resources in Culture, Language, and Literacy (CERCLL)<\/a> launched\u00a0<strong>Games2Teach: Developing Digital Game-Mediated Foreign Language Literacies.<\/strong>\u00a0Now a joint project between CERCLL and the <a href=\"https:\/\/casls.uoregon.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Center for Applied Second Language Studies (CASLS)<\/a>, Games2Teach offers world language educators resources and classroom activities so that they can design, implement, and assess digital game-mediated learning activities in their classrooms.<\/p>\n<p>By 2018,\u00a0Games2Teach will publish:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reviews of popular digital games in consideration of their suitability for language\u00a0teaching and learning<\/li>\n<li>Classroom activities to accompany widely\u00a0available digital games in\u00a0a variety of languages<\/li>\n<li>White papers and academic working papers on issues related to digital game-mediated language\u00a0teaching and learning<\/li>\n<li>A professional development\u00a0manual for\u00a0world language\u00a0teachers and education professionals on evaluating, designing, and implementing game-enhanced language\u00a0learning activities<\/li>\n<li>Summer workshops on digital game-mediated language\u00a0pedagogy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Games2Teach is co-directed by Dr. Julie Sykes from CASLS and Dr. Jonathon Reinhardt from CERCLL. CERCLL is coordinating a partner project called <a href=\"http:\/\/cercll.arizona.edu\/projects\/new.grant.cycle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Games For Literacies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Games2Teach\u00a0is funded by the U.S. Department of Education Title VI, under grant #P229A140004 and #P229A14001.
