Her first book, Gaming Sexism: Gender and Identity in the Era of Casual Video Games, was published in 2020 by New York University Press. Shane\u2019s research is on the relationship users of virtual reality have with their virtual characters. Shane investigates this through the critical and post-positivist lens, using a mixed method and grounded approaches. Shane\u2019s research focuses on the uses of innovative technologies and media while examining this through the media psychology paradigm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Shane\u2019s primary focus in immersive media is games and culture. Cassie\u2019s research interests are primarily in health equity and health communication among aging adults, but she\u2019s also interested in esports and mental health. Their primary research interests are in tabletop roleplaying games (like Dungeons &amp; Dragons but other titles also apply) as tools for people to express and explore marginalized or stigmatized identity.
