The story, titled \u201cNobel Winner Removed From Bank He Founded,\u201d focuses on the efforts of the Central Bank of Bangladesh to remove Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus from his post as director of the Grameen Bank.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-7309\" href=\"http:\/\/csws.uoregon.edu\/?attachment_id=7309\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-7309\" title=\"KarimCover\" src=\"http:\/\/csws.uoregon.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/KarimCover-194x300.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"155\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/csws-archive.uoregon.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/KarimCover-194x300.gif 194w, https:\/\/csws-archive.uoregon.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/KarimCover-97x150.gif 97w, https:\/\/csws-archive.uoregon.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/KarimCover.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 155px) 100vw, 155px\" \/><\/a>Karim had critical remarks to make about the effects of microfinance lending by the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh: \u201cWomen, poor women in particular, are getting deeper and deeper in debt. And this is largely because, similar to the banking industry in the U.S., microfinance for a very long time has been an unregulated industry.
