{"id":32259,"date":"2020-07-28T16:28:13","date_gmt":"2020-07-28T23:28:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/csws.uoregon.edu\/?p=32259"},"modified":"2021-01-13T09:36:33","modified_gmt":"2021-01-13T17:36:33","slug":"covid-19-relief-fund-for-caregivers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csws-archive.uoregon.edu\/covid-19-relief-fund-for-caregivers\/","title":{"rendered":"New UO COVID-19 Relief Fund includes support for caregivers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"230\" height=\"220\" src=\"https:\/\/csws.uoregon.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/images.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-31806\" srcset=\"https:\/\/csws-archive.uoregon.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/images.png 230w, https:\/\/csws-archive.uoregon.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/images-150x143.png 150w, https:\/\/csws-archive.uoregon.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/images-160x153.png 160w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 230px) 100vw, 230px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">July 28, 2020 \u2014 The University of Oregon <a aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/around.uoregon.edu\/content\/university-launches-relief-fund-support-employees\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced today<\/a> a new Relief Fund to support employees facing financial hardships during the pandemic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a UO <a aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/hr.uoregon.edu\/programs-services\/covid-19-resources\/uo-employee-covid-19-relief-fund\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Human Resources<\/a> webpage, the emergency financial assistance is intended to provide aid with specific needs related to the COVID-19 crisis including: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>New or increased <strong><em>eldercare expenses or childcare expenses<\/em><\/strong> necessitated by school or childcare closures due to COVID-19. <\/li><li><em><strong>Medical and health expenses<\/strong><\/em> related to COVID-19 that are not covered by insurance. This includes expenses resulting from the employee\u2019s own serious illness or accident or that of an immediate family member that were incurred as a result of COVID-19 and are not covered by insurance. <\/li><li><em><strong>Household expenses<\/strong><\/em> that the employee can no longer afford because they have experienced a sudden income reduction related to their UO position.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eligible UO employees can apply for limited support of up to $500 maximum in tax-free emergency relief assistance. In households with more than one UO employee, each employee may submit an application and be awarded up to the $500 maximum so long as the requests are not for the same expense. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In June, CSWS began a <a href=\"https:\/\/csws-archive.uoregon.edu\/caregiver-campaign\/\">Campaign for Caregivers<\/a>, urgently requesting in an <a aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/csws.uoregon.edu\/labor-inequities-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">open letter<\/a> to UO leadership that resources \u2014 such as faculty ASAs or funds allotted for research or travel \u2014 be re-purposed to support caregivers during the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, the new COVID-19 Relief Fund is supported by voluntary charitable employee <a aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/duckfunder.uoregon.edu\/project\/21628\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">donations and donor gift funds<\/a> from individuals and other entities that want to assist the University of Oregon faculty and staff facing unexpected financial challenges. In addition, all awards are subject to the availability of funds.
