Liu is a CSWS faculty affiliate.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Charlene Liu<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Associate Dean<br>Interim Director of School of Art + Design<br>College of Design<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When <a href=\"https:\/\/artdesign.uoregon.edu\/art\/charlene-liu?utm_source=immersive&amp;utm_campaign=stars2020\">Charlene Liu<\/a>, associate dean at the <a href=\"https:\/\/design.uoregon.edu\/\">College of Design<\/a> and interim director at the <a href=\"https:\/\/artdesign.uoregon.edu?utm_source=immersive&amp;utm_campaign=stars2020\">School of Art + Design<\/a>,\n was an undergraduate art student one of her professors, who she said, \n\u201ctaught printmaking with a fluid and experimental approach,\u201d had a \nstrong influence on her creative path. She also introduced Liu to the \nworks of many inspiring women artists, including Rina Banerjee, Ellen \nGallagher, Polly Apfelbaum, Florine Stettheimer, and the surrealist \nworks of Remedios Varo&nbsp;and Leonora Carrington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She also drew \ninspiration after college from a close-knit group of artists who helped \none another make the move from school to a creative life in New York \nCity. \u201cTogether we built studios in industrial spaces, shared \nopportunities for jobs and exhibitions, and introduced artists and \ncurators.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, Liu pays it forward with her own students by \nencouraging them to foster skills and creative connections that will \nhelp them build a sustainable creative practice after graduation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\n often employ studio assistants to help produce my creative work for an \nexhibition.
