Spirits\u2019 Homecoming<\/em> (Gwi-hyang) is a S. Korean fictional film that tells the story of young women who were taken from their homes in Korea (then a Japanese colony) and forced to become \u201ccomfort women\u201d for the Japanese Imperial Army during the Pacific War (1941-45).<\/p>\nCHC Associate Professor Susanna Lim will preface the film showing with a brief introduction of the issues surrounding the \u201ccomfort women\u201d: women from Korea, China, and other parts of Asia who were forced to become sexual slaves for the Japanese army during the period of Japanese imperial expansion and the Pacific War (1931-1945).<\/p>\n
The film is 2 hours and 7 minutes. It will be followed by discussion. Please note it addresses a historical issue that may be disturbing, even traumatizing, to many.<\/p>\n
