A CLLAS Faculty Grantee presentation by Alai Reyes-Santos (Ethnic Studies) and Ana Lara (Anthropology)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Professors Alai Reyes-Santos and Ana-Maurine Lara will discuss \u201cAfro-Aboriginal Women Healers in the Caribbean and its Diasporas\u201d in a CLLAS Faculty Grantee talk at the EMU on May 17 at 3:30 p.m. This talk focuses on their interdisciplinary study examining Caribbean women\u2019s roles in Afro-Indigenous healing traditions and how this healing work contributes to healers\u2019 empowerment in their communities. Research sites include the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and the Pacific Northwest.<\/p>\n

Ana-Maurine Lara<\/p><\/div>\n

Professor Lara is an anthropology professor and ethnographer and Professor Reyes-Santos is a professor of ethnic studies trained in literary and cultural studies.<\/p>\n

The study draws on their methodological areas of expertise to incorporate a) analysis of cultural narratives centering Caribbean women healers and b) ethnographic research among Caribbean women healers.<\/p>\n
