Sheldon) literary papers with a two-day symposium on December 4-5, 2015. James Tiptree, Jr. was the pen name of Alice Sheldon, an award winning feminist author of science fiction.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Tiptree\u2019s published stories include &#8220;The Last Flight of Doctor Ain, &#8221; \u201cHouston, Houston, Do you Read?\u201d, \u201cThe Women Men Don\u2019t See,\u201d \u201cHer Smoke Rose up Forever,\u201d The Woman Who was Plugged In,\u201d \u201cLove is the Plan, the Plan is Death,\u201d among many others; and two novels, <em>Up the Walls of the World<\/em> (1978) and <em>Brightness Falls from the Air<\/em>. The acquisition of the Tiptree Papers enriches Special Collections and University Archives\u2019 growing collection of feminist science fiction manuscript collections, which include the Ursula K. Le Guin Papers, the Joanna Russ Papers, the Sally Miller Gearhart Papers, and the Suzette Haden Elgin Papers.<\/p>\n<p>The symposium will kick off with a keynote talk by Julie Phillips, author of the biography: <em>James Tiptree, Jr.: The Double Life of Alice Sheldon<\/em> (St. Martins, 2006), and will also feature a panel discussion with other writers who carried on lively and engaging correspondence with Tiptree, including Ursula K. Le Guin, Suzy McKee Charnas and David Gerrold.<\/p>\n<p>The symposium will take place in the Lillis Auditorium, Room 182. Admission is free, however <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/a\/cas.uoregon.edu\/forms\/d\/1aWBUfyMqspt5wwC2rFeZo4f-LzMenpBkWhJ8-4iC8jY\/viewform?c=0&amp;w=1\" target=\"_blank\">please RSVP here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An exhibit based on the Tiptree Papers will be in Knight Library, first floor, and in Special Collections and University Archives.
