June 1, 2015\u2014<\/strong>The Office of Academic Affairs is pleased to announce that Professor Ellen Herman<\/a> will be the new Faculty Codirector of the Wayne Morse Center for Law and Politics. Professor Herman is currently Chair of the Department of History and will begin her five-year appointment in January 2016 following the retirement of Margaret Hallock, the current Faculty Codirector. She was appointed following an internal search conducted by the Office of Academic Affairs.<\/p>\n

Professor Herman is a respected scholar, a campus leader and a talented teacher. She is a historian of the modern United States with special interests in the human sciences, social engineering, and therapeutic culture. Her most recent book is Kinship by Design: A History of Adoption in the Modern United States<\/em> (University of Chicago Press, 2008). Her current research project, “Autism, Between Risks and Rights” was supported in 2011-2012 by a Fellowship from the American Council of Learned Societies.<\/p>\n

Professor Herman has been active with the Wayne Morse Center for many years and is currently on its Advisory Board. The Faculty Codirector works collaboratively with Rebecca Flynn and Dan Tichenor to lead the Wayne Morse Center. She will be responsible for organizing the center\u2019s biennial themes of inquiry, overseeing the endowed Wayne Morse Chair of Law and Politics and other academic programs, and development for the center.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
