The prediction was a gross overestimation based on unsubstantiated evidence. So why was it made & what was the effect? Don’t Shout Too Loud offers the harsh & unsettling theory that special interest groups are manipulating public policy in order to promote their agendas by inflating the scope of human trafficking. In doing so, argues director Courtney D. Campbell, they cause public panic & resources to be directed away from those who require the most help.

The Globalization & Alterity RIG seeks to bring together graduate students from various departments interested in the intersection of modernity, trans- and supranational phenomena, and their implications on issues of gender and alterity.

Next quarter, we will be reading sections from Nancy Fraser’s Scales of Justice: Reimagining Political Space in a Globalizing World and Gayatri Spivak’s A Critique of Postcolonial Reason: Toward a History of the Vanishing Present and meeting to discuss them.
