<\/a>CSWS associate director Gabriela\u00a0Mart\u00ednez has been invited to screen her documentary\u00a0Keep Your Eyes On Guatemala<\/em> for the Border Film Week Series organized by the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice at the University of San Diego. The documentary will be screened on March 26 and\u00a0Mart\u00ednez will attend the screening and do Q\/A.<\/p>\nKeep Your Eyes On Guatemala<\/em>\u00a0(RT 54 min.) tells the story of Guatemala\u2019s National Police Historical Archive (Archivo Hist\u00f3rico de la Policia Nacional\u2014AHPN) intertwined with narratives\u00a0of past human rights abuses and the dramatic effects they had on specific individuals and the nation as a whole. In addition, it highlights present-day efforts to preserve collective memories and bring justice and reconciliation to the country.<\/p>\n The film is the result of a collaboration between academic units at the University of Oregon and AHPN. With funding support from the Network Startup Resource Center (NSRC), and other campus units, Carlos Aguirre and Gabriela Mart\u00ednez (associate professor, UO School of Journalism and Communication), are heading up a series of projects for UO.<\/p>\n Gabriela Mart\u00ednez is an international award-winning documentary maker who has produced, directed or edited more than twelve ethnographic and socio\/political documentaries, including Textiles in the Southern Andes<\/em> (1993), Qoyllur Rit\u2019i: A Woman\u2019s Journey<\/em> (1998), Women, Media, and Rebellion in Oaxaca<\/em> (2008), Latino Roots in Lane County<\/em> (2009), and Keep Your Eyes On Guatemala<\/em> (2013). In addition to her career as a documentary producer, Mart\u00ednez is engaged in research, focusing on international and global communications, media ownership, and media culture. Her creative and research work emphasizes Latin American issues and Latinos in the United States as a growing ethnic minority. She is the author of Latin American Telecommunications: Telef\u00f3nica\u2019s Conquest<\/em>, Cinema Law in Latin America: Brazil, Peru, and Colombia<\/em>, The Media Map Project: Peru a case study<\/em>.
