Join us for a lively discussion at a roundtable with Jim Meacham (director, UO InfoGraphics Lab) and Lindsay Naylor (PhD candidate, UO Department of Geography) to discuss budding plans for a new epicurean atlas of Oregon. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Meacham will present the atlas creation approach used in the creation of the <em>Atlas of Oregon<\/em>, and the recently completed <em>Atlas of Yellowstone<\/em>, for which he served as cartographic editor. Meacham and Naylor will discuss the application of\u00a0 these methods in the creation of a new food-based atlas of Oregon. A central goal for the project is the creation of a map and data graphic\u2013based product (or collection of products) that communicates the unique geographic character of food production, access, and consumption in Oregon, with an emphasis on the importance of food quality and deliciousness. Meacham and Naylor have drafted a table of contents that includes sections on Oregon\u2019s geographic setting, physical geography (including soils and climate), human geography (including history, economics, contemporary trends, and cultural influences), food production, food access, gastronomy, and social issues. This project is in the exploration phase.
