In 1974, William Harris was approached for an endowment for the University of Oregon. After a visit to the school and negotiations with Joan Acker and other UO faculty and administrators, he agreed to fund a center that engaged in research on women and gender studies. His $3.5 million bequest in the name of feminist activist Jane Grant<\/a>, his wife, made possible the Center for the Study of Women in Society as we know it today.<\/em><\/p>\n

You can be a part of the more than 45 years of feminist research and community by donating today to support the transformative work of CSWS.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Your gift will go directly to our work to fund intersectional feminist research and enrich the UO community by bringing to campus thought leaders who can speak to the ways in which gender, race, class, ability, and sexual orientation intersect and inform our vision of social justice.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Acker-Morgen Memorial Lectureship<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Center for the Study of Women in Society’s Acker-Morgen Memorial Lectureship<\/strong><\/a> honors two powerful feminist voices, CSWS founding director Joan Acker<\/strong><\/a> and longtime center director Sandra Morgen<\/a>,<\/strong> both of whom passed away in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This annual lecture series commemorates their legacies <\/strong>by bringing to the University of Oregon campus renowned feminist scholars who work on issues of economic justice and gender equity \u2014 issues that were very near and dear to both Joan and Sandi.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
