The dissertation, \u201cMelodramatics of Turkish Modernity: Narratives of Gendered Victimhood, Affect, and Politics,\u201d offers a historical account of the \u201crhetorical gendered violence that underlies the disturbing rise of gendered violence in Turkish society.\u201d Germen undertakes a genealogical approach across media to provide an analytical framework for melodramatic aesthetics and politics by following \u201cnarratives of victimhood that traverse literature, \ufb01lm, and song lyrics, and in\ufb01ltrate political discourse.\u201c<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>2016-17 Graduate Student
