Resistance, Terror, and the United States in the Aftermath of the Coup\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Speaker:<\/em> Dana Frank<br>Professor of History Emerita<br>University of California, Santa Cruz<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this presentation Dana Frank will discuss her new book,&nbsp;<em>The Long Honduran Night: Resistance, Terror, and the United States in the Aftermath of the Coup<\/em>, which examines Honduras since the 2009 coup that deposed democratically-elected President Manuel Zelaya.&nbsp;In the book, she interweaves her personal experiences in post-coup Honduras and in the US Congress with a larger analysis of the coup regime and its ongoing repression, Honduran opposition movements, US policy in support of the regime, and Congressional challenges to that policy. Her book helps us understand the root causes of the immigrant caravans of Hondurans leaving for the US, and the destructive impact of US policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cllas.uoregon.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Dana-692x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9755\" width=\"124\" height=\"184\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cllas.uoregon.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Dana-692x1024.jpg 692w, https:\/\/cllas.uoregon.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Dana-203x300.jpg 203w, https:\/\/cllas.uoregon.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Dana-768x1136.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cllas.uoregon.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Dana.jpg 1730w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 124px) 100vw, 124px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Dana Frank is Professor of History Emerita \u00a0at the University of California, Santa\u00a0Cruz. \u00a0Herbooks include\u00a0<em>Bananeras: Women Transforming the Banana Unions of Latin America,\u00a0<\/em>which focuses on Honduras, and\u00a0<em>Buy American: The Untold Story of Economic Nationalism.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>Her writings on\u00a0human rights and U.S.\u00a0policy in post-coup Honduras have appeared in<em> <\/em>the<em>\u00a0New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Miami\u00a0Herald, Houston Chronicle,\u00a0The Nation, Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, Politico\u00a0Magazine,\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0many other publications, and she has been interviewed by the\u00a0<em>Washington Post, New Yorker, New York Times,\u00a0<\/em>National Public Radio, Univsion, Latino USA<em>,\u00a0<\/em>regularly on\u00a0Democracy Now!<em>,\u00a0<\/em>and on other outlets. \u00a0Professor Frank\u00a0\u00a0has testified about Honduras before the US House of Representatives, the California Assembly, and the Canadian Parliament.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Knight Library, Browsing Room, 1501 Kincaid St., UO campus \u201cWhy are the Migrants Fleeing Honduras?
