Why would my grandmother, who loved me deeply, say that my hair \u2018does not come from our side of the family\u2019?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we experience university responses to the Black Lives Matter Movement, Black Latinxs relive the everyday violence I faced during my childhood. Black Latinas are made invisible by intellectual and pedagogical initiatives. Data rarely documents Afro-Latino experiences in education, housing and employment, though they are similar to African American ones; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.afrolatinoforum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AfroLatinx activists<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/storyline\/hispanic-heritage-month\/afro-latinos-seek-recognition-accurate-census-count-n207426\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Afro-Latinx Studies scholars<\/a> seek that recognition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a
