CLLAS is sponsoring\u00a0a showing of the film Mexican Dream<\/em> during\u00a0Latino Heritage Month from 4-6 pm on October 20 in the Browsing Room at UO Knight Library.<\/p>\n

Mexican Dream<\/em>, a\u00a0documentary film by Alex Ruiz Euler and Jon Wetterau, was made in 2014. The story\u00a0is about a group of indigenous migrants who leave a pastoral but poverty-stricken life in Mexico for a new home in a small meatpacking town in Minnesota. <\/p>\n

Shot on both sides of the border, we see an intimate portrait of their migration experience: the extreme poverty of the families, the contradictions of the United States as a rich country and its relationship to immigration, and the ways Mexican society has accepted this outmigration as a convenient solution for poverty-stricken populations for decades. Global economic migration remains one of the unresolved issues of our time. This film provides a new, intimate perspective into the people experiencing this global narrative and the everyday struggles they face at home and abroad.<\/p>\n
