Drawing on years of archival research and her previous article <em data-start=\"653\" data-end=\"773\">\u201cOf Chicana Lesbian Terrorists and Lesberadas: Recuperating the Lesbian\/Queer Roots of Chicana Feminism, 1970\u20132000\u201d<\/em>, Dr. Saavedra is working to expand this scholarship into a full-length book that reframes the intellectual history of Chicana feminist thought.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"921\" data-end=\"958\">Recovering a Silenced Genealogy<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"959\" data-end=\"1414\">Dr. Saavedra\u2019s work highlights how lesbian and queer voices have been central to the development of Chicana feminist discourse, even as they have often been erased, sidelined, or relegated to footnotes in both Chicana\/o history and Chicana\/o Studies as a field. By centering this genealogy, she argues that queer Chicana feminists did not simply exist at the margins but played a <strong data-start=\"1339\" data-end=\"1412\">foundational role in shaping activism, theory, and cultural politics.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1416\" data-end=\"1459\">A Project of Intellectual Reclamation<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1460\" data-end=\"1932\">Funded in part by the CLLAS Faculty Seed Grant and support from the University of Texas at Austin\u2019s Benson Latin American Collection, Dr. Saavedra has begun extensive archival work tracing the intersections of queer identity, feminism, and Chicana\/o activism over three centuries. Her project reveals how lesbian and queer Chicanas carved out space within movements that often resisted their visibility\u2014challenging machismo, heteronormativity, and colonial narratives of identity.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1934\" data-end=\"1972\">Queer Turns in Chicana\/o Studies<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1973\" data-end=\"2400\">Focusing especially on the period between <strong data-start=\"2015\" data-end=\"2032\">1970 and 2020<\/strong>, <em data-start=\"2034\" data-end=\"2047\">Queer Turns<\/em> documents how lesbian-queer Chicana thought opened new avenues of academic and activist inquiry. From community organizing to literature and theory, Dr. Saavedra shows how these voices reshaped the trajectory of Chicana\/o Studies, ensuring that sexuality, gender, and intersectionality became inseparable from questions of race, culture, and justice.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2402\" data-end=\"2421\">Looking Ahead<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2422\" data-end=\"2886\">By mapping this genealogy, Dr. Saavedra\u2019s work contributes to an ongoing project of <strong data-start=\"2506\" data-end=\"2547\">intellectual and cultural reclamation<\/strong>\u2014bringing lesbian and queer Chicana voices out of the archival shadows and into the center of historical memory.
