Religious<\/span><\/b> Experiences\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Religious participation provides an important basis of community and spiritual sustenance for Latino immigrants. Since the earliest Spanish language Mass occurred in 1981 at the St. Thomas More Newman Center at the University of Oregon, Spanish speaking congregations have blossomed across the county, representing a wide range of denominations, including Catholic, Pentecostal, Latter-Day Saints, Baptist, and Seventh-day Adventists.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

St. Mary\u2019s Church, Catholic Mass\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

St. Mary\u2019s Church of Eugene offers a Spanish Mass every Sunday at 1:00 pm. as well as bilingual and Spanish masses on Holy Day of Obligation and Special Feast Day Masses. The celebration honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe is the largest gathering held by the Spanish-speaking congregation at St. Mary\u2019s Catholic Church. Held on December 12th, this event commemorates the appearance of the Virgin Mary to Saint Juan Diego on the hill of Tepeyac near Mexico City from 9 through 12 December, 1531. After his final encounter with the Virgin, her image miraculously appeared on his cloak, which is still venerated today in The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. La Virgen de Guadalupe has become a powerful symbol of Catholic and Mexican identity, also known as the \u201cPatroness of the Americas.\u201d In December of 2008, more than 500 people attended the special Spanish mass for the Virgen de Guadalupe at St. Mary\u2019s Church.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ministerio La Esperanza\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

A Catholic group that meets weekly at Saint Mary\u2019s church, Ministerio La Esperanza offers a form of devotional worship that supplements the regular Mass. La Esperanza was formed five years ago by Tony Gutierrez, and has grown from a group of 4 to more than 250 today largely due to his dedication. La Esperanza holds a weekly devotional service that includes singing, dancing and a guest speaker. Additionally, they hold a weekly Bible study, a youth ministry, retreats, and a monthly night of prayer.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tabernaculo de la Verdad\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

Tabernaculo de la Verdad was founded in Springfield in 1997 by Pastor Rub\u00e9n Bahena and his family. Through their hard work, and after several changes in location, the church has grown to around 300 regular members and is now among the largest Pentecostal churches in Springfield. The Tabernaculo additionally holds smaller devotional groups in the community, as well as Bible studies, counseling for members, and youth groups and music lessons, and a monthly Time of Rejoicing of all night prayer.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Iglesia de Cristo Mahana\u00edm\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

Pastor Josu\u00e9 Vel\u00e1squez and his family came to Lane County in 1996. Starting with a small congregation in Junction City, they founded the Church of Christ Mahana\u00edm. After persevering through a period without a permanent location, they have since established themselves in Eugene and become one of the largest Evangelical congregations in the area. In addition to regular church services, the Iglesia de Cristo Mahana\u00edm holds various events in the community, including marches, jubilees, retreats, and youth ministries. Sunday services are weekly aired on Comcast channel 12, and are also aired on the radio and the Internet. They also host the famous Evangelical preacher, Jimmy Powers.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Iglesia Centro de Fe\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

Centro de Fe is one of the earliest Latino churches to be established in Lane County. It was founded 18 years ago by Pastor Lu\u00eds Vergara, who began his outreach by providing services to the community. His church continues this tradition today, by helping families in the community in need of aid during hard times. Additionally, the church holds ministries and music lessons for the youth.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Experiencia’s Religiosas<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

La participaci\u00f3n religiosa es base importante del sustento comunitario y espiritual de los inmigrantes latinos. Desde que se celebr\u00f3 la primer misa en espa\u00f1ol en 1981 en el Centro St. Thomas More Newman de la Universidad de Oreg\u00f3n, las congregaciones de habla hispana han florecido por todo el condado, y hoy representan a una gran variedad de denominaciones, incluyendo la Cat\u00f3lica, Pentecostal, de los Santos de los \u00daltimos D\u00edas, Bautista, y Adventista del S\u00e9ptimo D\u00eda.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

St. Mary\u2019s Church, Misa Cat\u00f3lica\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

La iglesia St. Mary\u00b4s de Eugene ofrece una misa en espa\u00f1ol todos los domingos a la 1:00 de la tarde, as\u00ed como misas biling\u00fces el Santo D\u00eda de Obligaci\u00f3n y durante las fiestas especiales. La celebraci\u00f3n de la Virgen de Guadalupe constituye la mayor celebraci\u00f3n de la congregaci\u00f3n hispanohablante en St. Mary\u2019s. Se lleva a cabo el 12 de diciembre y conmemora la aparici\u00f3n de la Virgen Mar\u00eda a San Juan Diego en el cerro del Tepeyac en la Ciudad de M\u00e9xico del 9 al 12 de diciembre de 1531. Despu\u00e9s del \u00faltimo encuentro de Juan Diego con la Virgen, la imagen de \u00e9sta apareci\u00f3 en su tilma, que hasta hoy d\u00eda se venera en la Bas\u00edlica de Guadalupe de la Ciudad de M\u00e9xico. La Virgen de Guadalupe, tambi\u00e9n conocida como Emperatriz de las Am\u00e9ricas, se ha convertido en s\u00edmbolo esencial de la identidad cat\u00f3lica y mexicana. En diciembre del 2008 m\u00e1s de 500 personas acudieron a la misa guadalupana en St. Mary\u00b4s.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ministerio La Esperanza\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

Grupo cat\u00f3lico que se re\u00fane semanalmente en la iglesia St. Mary\u00b4s, el Ministerio La Esperanza ofrece un culto devocional que suplementa la misa regular. La Esperanza se form\u00f3 hace 5 a\u00f1os gracias a la dedicaci\u00f3n de Tony Guti\u00e9rrez, y sus miembros pasaron de ser 4, a ser hoy m\u00e1s de 250. La Esperanza realiza un servicio devocional semanal que incluye canto, danza y una pl\u00e1tica ofrecida por un orador invitado. Ofrece tambi\u00e9n un grupo semanal de estudio b\u00edblico, ministerio juvenil, retiros espirituales, y una noche mensual de oraci\u00f3n.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tabern\u00e1culo de la Verdad\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

El Tabern\u00e1culo de la Verdad fue fundado en 1997 en Springfield por el Pastor Rub\u00e9n Bahena y su familia. Mediante su arduo trabajo, y tras varios cambios de ubicaci\u00f3n, esta iglesia ha llegado a incluir a 300 miembros regulares y es hoy una de las mayores congregaciones Pentecostales de Springfield. El Tabern\u00e1culo tambi\u00e9n realiza reuniones de grupos devocionales, as\u00ed como estudio b\u00edblico, consejer\u00eda para miembros, grupos de j\u00f3venes, lecciones de m\u00fasica, y una oraci\u00f3n que dura toda una noche al mes, llamada Hora del Regocijo.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Iglesia de Cristo Mahana\u00edm\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

El Pastor Josu\u00e9 Vel\u00e1squez y su familia llegaron al Condado de Lane en 1996. Comenzando con una peque\u00f1a congregaci\u00f3n en Junction City, fundaron la Iglesia de Cristo Mahana\u00edm. Perseveraron un tiempo sin tener ubicaci\u00f3n permanente, se han establecido en Eugene y convertido en una de las mayores congregaciones evang\u00e9licas de la zona. Adem\u00e1s de los servicios regulares, la Iglesia de Cristo Mahana\u00edm realiza varios eventos en la comunidad, incluyendo marchas, jubileos, retiros y ministerios juveniles. Los servicios dominicales se transmiten por el canal 12 de Comcast, as\u00ed como por la radio y el internet. \u00c9stos tambi\u00e9n reciben al famoso pastor evang\u00e9lico Jimmy Powers.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

El Centro de Fe fue una de las primeras iglesias latinas del Condado de Lane. El Pastor Luis Vergara comenz\u00f3 la expansi\u00f3n de su fe mediante la provisi\u00f3n de servicios comunitarios. Su iglesia contin\u00faa esa tradici\u00f3n actualmente, ayudando a las familias necesitadas de auxilio durante tiempos dif\u00edciles.
