Dr. Balderas was a featured speaker in October 2015 at the CLLAS-sponsored event <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/cllas.uoregon.edu\/latinaos-and-education\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cLatina\/os and K-12 Education: Bridging Research and Practice.\u201d<\/a> <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>February 14, 2020\u2014<\/strong>\u201cDr. Gustavo Balderas, superintendent of Eugene School District 4J since 2015, has been named the nation\u2019s top superintendent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"218\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/cllas.uoregon.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/4J-SOY-2-crop-218x300-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10976\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn his acceptance speech, Dr. Balderas identified himself as \u2018a proud son of a migrant family from Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico\u2019 and \u2018a proud product of our public school system.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018It is truly an honor to serve in the role of superintendent of Eugene public schools. I am blessed to be in my community,\u2019 said Dr. Balderas. \u2018Seeing that kids are succeeding because of the changes we\u2019re making drives me. We, as leaders, need to be champions for our profession.
