The department offers a graduate program leading to the master of arts (MA) and the doctor of philosophy (PhD) degrees. The program, which is pluralistic in orientation, requires students to develop a broad knowledge of the history of philosophy, major fields, emerging and engaged philosophies, and various approaches and methods. It supports specializations especially in American philosophy, Continental philosophy, feminist philosophy, Latin American philosophy, Native American philosophy, philosophy of race, philosophy of data and AI, social and political philosophy, ethics, aesthetics, environmental philosophy, philosophy of science and history of philosophy. The department also welcomes interdisciplinary approaches.
