Previous Student Programs<\/h2>\n

For over twenty years, we at CASLS have supported world language teaching and learning. Our projects include curriculum, assessment, research, and direct student instruction. Although our funding doesn’t always allow us the ability to maintain the projects, we continue to provide the materials created.<\/p>\n

Bridging Project<\/a>
\n<\/b>Languages: Chinese, Russian, Spanish
\nThe Bridging Project was an online language learning course designed specifically for high school students with high levels of proficiency (Advanced-low). The Bridging Project, perfect for heritage learners and immersion students, uses engaging, age-appropriate topics. Students enrolled in the year-long course and worked in teams to create a final project.<\/p>\n

Ecopod<\/a>
\n<\/b>Languages: Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Spanish
\nEcopod modules engage learners in using the target language and knowledge of other subject areas to solve problems, find collaborators, and build community. Students access the modules using their iOS mobile device.<\/p>\n

Analog U<\/a>
\n<\/b>Languages: Any
\nAnalog U embraces mobile technologies to help users become more mindful of their digital interactions. Using a series of playful questions, this digital mindfulness app develops learners\u2019 awareness of the most habitually employed mobile features, like push notifications.<\/p>\n

Japanese Global Scholars<\/a>
\n<\/strong>Languages: Japanese
\nCASLS, the Center for Asian and Pacific Studies<\/a>, and the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures<\/a> collaborated to develop the University of Oregon Global Scholars Program in Japanese. The program paired academic and linguistic training so that students could major in a field of their choice while learning Japanese language and culture.<\/p>\n

Hermes Online Language Learning<\/strong><\/a>
\nLanguages: Chinese, Swahili
\nDuring 2012-2015, CASLS piloted the Hermes online language learning program. Hermes was an entirely web-based learning management system. Using peer-to-peer scaffolding and project-based learning, Hermes allowed novice students to become active agents in their language learning journey.<\/p>\n

Chinese Online Modules<\/a>
\n<\/strong>Languages: Chinese
\nBetween 2011-2014, CASLS developed Chinese Academic Language Learning Modules (CALLM). CALLM are online Chinese learning units that integrate university-level content courses and relevant, domain-specific language instruction.<\/p>\n

Swahili Academy<\/strong><\/a>
\nLanguages: Swahili
\nThe College Readiness Academy offered an intensive high school Swahili program through a two-week residential summer program followed by an online semester-long program.
