For these reasons, we convened a forum of education, business, and government leaders to talk about the skills language learners need to become successful. Members of these sectors shared their perspectives and identified ways to collaboratively shape world&nbsp;language learning. The resulting action plan, known as the Oregon Roadmap to Language Excellence, proposed incentive-based initiatives to reward students who demonstrate proficiency and to support educational institutions helping students become proficient.<\/p>\n<h3>Specifically, the Oregon Roadmap called for:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Federal and state support for integrated K-16 international education programs<\/li>\n<li>Scholarships for bilingual teachers in training<\/li>\n<li>Credits for K-12 and college students based on proficiency rather than seat time<\/li>\n<li>School-to-work internships for students<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oregon Roadmap to Language Excellence Striving to Create the Conditions that Will Allow Every Oregon Graduate to be Professionally Proficient in English and Functionally Proficient in Another Language by 2025 Download the Full Report As educators and researchers, we want students to succeed in college and in the job market.
